Textiles - Inspired by Hockney
Tutor: Janet EdmondsCourse Code: 3317-09

Summary

David Hockney is one of the most popular and widely recognised artists of our time and has produced some of the best known paintings. He has explored place and space, drawing and colour, giving us a wealth of colour and texture to inspire stitch.

Description

During the course we will explore the work of Hockney and examine the way in which he uses colour and texture as potential inspiration for stitching. Initially making marks on paper with paint and crayons, these will be transferred into rich, vibrant and decorative combinations for designs for stitch.

A range of stitches will be sampled using a variety of types of thread to create contrasts of surface. Students will learn about the subtle nuances of colour and surface that will enhance their textile work. By the end of the course they should have more appreciation of Hockney’s work and gain confidence in the use of colour and stitch.
