Description
Creating a stool is a great introduction to traditional upholstery techniques.
There are seven layers in the construction of your stool including, webbing, tarpaulin, coir, hair, hessian and calico. You will be provided with all the materials needed to learn the techniques needed to turn these materials into a structured seat pad, tacking down the layers and hand-stitching with linen twine to create the correct shape, profile and comfort level.
The final step is adding the top cover, which you bring with you to ensure the stool matches your desired style and complements your home once it's in place.
Please bring with you
Upholstery tools, if you have them (needles, webbing stretcher, tack hammer)
Scissors for fabric
Leather gloves (as getting the twine nice and tight can be tough on the hands)
Upholstery fabric/top cover to cover your stool– one metre should be sufficient
An apron and suitable workshop clothing.
(There will be tools available to borrow so no need to purchase tools)
The following items can be purchased from your tutor
All the materials for the stool are included in the cost of the course – excluding the top fabric. This equates to £50 for the stool and £32 for all the upholstery materials.
