Hand Stitching - A Little Piece of Africa

Summary
This course is an introduction into some of the amazing African textiles available today, the techniques used to create them and how to use them in your work. Working by hand you will make a small textile artwork that includes piecing, applique, and simple embroidery. Spend these two days immersed in some mindful stitching to create a unique piece of work.
Description
The finished work will be approx. 30 cm x 15 cm (12” x 6”).
Please bring with you
Janice will bring extra kits and spare fabric and thread with her too.
Please bring a general sewing kit with you to include:
Fabric scissors
Small scissors
Tacking thread
Needles, pins, thimble etc.
Note pad and pen
Rotary cutter, mat, and rule – optional.

Janice Gunner is an award-winning textile artist, dyer, quilter, author, and semi-retired teacher who received a Medal for Excellence both as a student and City & Guilds lecturer. In 2019 she was the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award for service to Patchwork & Quilting by The Festival of Quilts and in 2020 she was awarded the MA Textiles at UCA (University for the Creative Arts), Farnham, Surrey with Merit.
