Hand Embroidery Workshop - Inspired by Hundertwasser
Tutor: Janet EdmondsCourse Code: 3325-20
Summary
Hundertwasser was an Austrian artist with a strong individual style. His work shows bright, intense colour and quirky images of lines, spirals and eyes meandering around organic shapes. We will use these characteristics together with an imaginary walk through familiar places to create a spontaneous design. This will be interpreted into a small piece of stitching, with raised areas that could become a small panel.
Description
We will prepare a simple design as a guide for informing colour, shape and texture using cut paper shapes with added marks applied with water soluble crayons and felt pens. The design will reflect an imaginary but familiar walk or place, with emphasis on line and shape. The design will be developed into a small stitched textile. Techniques will include applique and couching, combined with a variety of stitches and padded methods which together will result in a joyful interpretation of Hundertwasser’s paintings.
