A Little Piece of Africa Textile Project - Hand Stitching

Summary
This course is an introduction into some of the amazing African textiles available today, the techniques used to create them and how to use them in your work. Working by hand you will make a small textile artwork that includes piecing, applique, and simple embroidery. Spend the weekend immersed in some mindful stitching to create a unique piece of work.
Description
The finished work will be approx. 30 cm x 15 cm (12” x 6”).
Please bring with you
Janice will bring extra kits and spare fabric and thread with her for the weekend too.
Please bring a general sewing kit with you to include:
Fabric scissors
Small scissors
Tacking thread
Needles, pins, thimble etc.
Note pad and pen
Rotary cutter, mat, and rule – optional.

Janice Gunner is textile artist, quilter and author. She learned how to embroider at the age of five, made her own clothes from the age of 10, has been quilting for 49 years and has spent almost 30 years of those teaching patchwork & quilting, including 23 years teaching City & Guilds courses. Janice was awarded the MA Textiles with Merit in August 2020 from The University for The Creative Arts (UCA), Farnham .
