Bedfordshire and Bucks Point Lace

Summary
This is a weekend course on Bedfordshire and Bucks Point lace, with individual tuition to focus on a new project, a new lace or continue and make progress on an existing project. Weekend courses give you more concentrated time than a weekly class to make significant progress. The pattern can be supplied before the course by contacting the tutor. This course is taught through individual learning and group demonstrations of techniques as appropriate.
Description
Lacemakers who want to try Bedfordshire or Bucks point for the first time will learn the techniques to get started in the geometric patterns, while more advanced and experienced lacemakers will receive individual guidance to improve advanced techniques in floral designs. Everyone welcome at all levels in Bedfordshire and Bucks point, including beginners to these East Midlands laces, through to the more experienced wanting individual advice about their lace.
Please bring with you
Lace pillow, bobbins, pins, cover cloths, scissors, thread suitable for pattern, pattern/book that pattern is in, glasses/magnifier (if needed) comfortable clothing for sitting. Ideally come with pattern prepared and bobbins wound to enable work to start straight away. Contact will be made with students prior to the course, to confirm what pattern is being planned for or what pattern is required to start.

Louise West
Louise has a wide range of experience in bobbin lacemaking, acquired over more than 25 years, including an MA in contemporary lace, and has made lace for Danish Royalty and National Trust. She regularly travels to teach overseas and throughout the UK, specialising in Bedfordshire and Bucks point lace, and has had designs published throughout the world. In 2018 Louise developed the Laser cutting process to produce accurate ‘ready to work’ lace patterns which now sell worldwide.
