Japanese Embroidery
Tutor: Janet CroninCourse Code: 4724-01
Summary
This course will cater for all level of student. Beginners will have the opportunity of stitching a simple design designed by the Japanese Embroidery Centre. There is a choice of one of four designs that will teach up to about 6 beginners stitches. Advanced stitchers will be able to carry on with their existing project. For those who have stitched some Japanese Embroidery I have a selection of small and straightforward designs at various levels.
Description
For beginners I will aim to teach you some of the basic stitches using the Japanese floss which is an untwisted thread. As we sometimes use twisted threads I will teach you how to make a twisted thread which is a useful skill to have as it will enable you to make many interesting threads incorporating metal threads. Other students will have the opportunity of further developing their current piece of work with my input as appropriate. If you start a new design we will talk through the best way to tackle it and how to proceed so that you learn in a logical way and learn the rules of stitching Japanese embroidery.
Non-residents who wish to attend the optional Saturday evening teaching session, and would like to book dinner, please contact us at time of booking.
Please bring with you
For beginners please bring a pair of embroidery scissors and a pair of scissors suitable to cut metal threads.
The following items can be purchased from your tutor
I will bring all the threads and tools needed to stitch JEC designs. I also have additional threads and tools for other designs including a tekobari(Japanese stroking tool). If you have no equipment do not buy anything as you cannot buy the Japanese tools and threads in the British shops. You may just waste your money. You can borrow from me any equipment you need for the duration of the class but if you want to take it further I have some items for you to purchase.

Tutor
Janet Cronin
I came to Japanese Embroidery after a lifetime of embroidery and wanting a fresh challenge. I have found that learning this form of embroidery has improved all other forms of embroidery and given me much more patience. I qualified as a tutor in 2006 and have been teaching ever since. I attend the refresher class for tutors held every 3 years in order to maintain my accreditation.
