Chinese Brush Painting - Red Crowned Cranes, and Fish

Summary
I will demonstrate red crowned cranes on the first day and fish (e.g. goldfish, angel fish) on the second. We will start from an initial sketch, to outlines using ink and water, then application of colours, and finally background washes.
Description
Over these 2 days we will paint Red Crowned Cranes and Fish, both essential subjects of Chinese Brush Painting. I will do demonstration paintings using the skills of traditional Lingnan style. From initial sketches and outlines in ink and water we will build up our paintings with the application of colour and background washes.
Please bring with you
Xuan paper (raw, semi-sized or mulberry will all work)
Chinese ink
Standard set of Chinese painting colours (e.g. Marie’s 12-colour set)
Brush washing bucket
A few brushes of varying sizes including a flat brush
Felt mat/newspaper/towel to lay paper on
Charcoal pencil
Water spray for background washes

My passion for Chinese painting and calligraphy started at a young age and, as a teenager, I learnt the art from a master of the Lingnan School. The Lingnan School came about in the early twentieth century in Southern China and combined Chinese traditions with concepts and techniques from different cultures, such as Japan and the West. While the media I use for my paintings are largely traditional Chinese, I like exploring different compositions and topics.
