Crochet without borders! Look forward to a relaxing weekend with a combination of workshops tailored to your experience and what you would like to learn, working on new or existing projects.

We will start the weekend with a Freeform Crochet workshop, where you will learn to make several different stitches and techniques to make your own scrumble. We will continue investigating freeform in the afternoon, or you will have the opportunity to ask Diana any crochet question. Diana is an experienced tutor and has knowledge in the following areas:

Diana can show you how to crochet, starting methods including foundation chain (hints and tips to make it easier) starting in the round, standing stitches, magic ring, foundation double crochet, working in rows with straight edges, working in the round, amigurumi methods, joining limbs, sewing up, making hair, loop stitches, designing amigurumi, filet, broomstick, hairpin, crochet cables (post stitches, or back loop) tapestry crochet (3 different techniques), Tunisian and mosaic crochet.  Following charts, reading patterns, increasing, decreasing, tension swatches, blocking techniques, all the stitches – slip stitch, double crochet, half treble, treble, double treble (and more!) , Freeform crochet including bullion stitch, spike stitches and surface crochet, creating texture with shells, clusters, bobbles puff stitches and popcorns.  Corner to corner crochet (C2C) Working with thread, doilies, filet crochet, working with extra thick yarn – t-shirt yarn, many, many ways of joining motif squares, and of course troubleshooting – I can’t find my stitch!

Please bring with you

Due to the random nature of the project, you will need to supply the following:

Different sized hooks from 2mm-6mm
Yarns with different textures including plain, mohair, boucle, silky, sparkly etc in a colour palette that suits you! Scraps of yarn (from stash) are fine as freeform uses lots of bits and pieces!!
Please bring any project or more than one that you would like to work on, but that you need some help with. If you would like to learn a specific technique, please let us know when you book, so that Diana can bring relevant equipment.

The following items can be purchased from your tutor

Crochet hooks in various sizes – From £2.50 to £7.99 for individual hooks and sets from £30
Toy eyes (for amigurumi) – from 20p per pair
5.5mm Tunisian crochet hook - £3
Single Knitting needles (for Broomstick crochet) (sizes 10, 12, 15 or 20mm) from £1 each
A selection of crochet books

Diana Bensted

I left primary school teaching to pursue a craft I am passionate about – Crochet! I opened a shop and honed my crochet skills, teaching crochet (and a bit of knitting) to many people. I started designing and found that I love to make patterns that are easy to follow, and that use a minimum of sewing up! I specifically use photo and video tutorials to support those new to the craft but use ingenious twists to interest those who have been crocheting for years. I have designed for some national magazines and yarn producers, this experience has helped me to develop my designing skills, but I now prefer to sell my patterns and kits directly to my lovely customers online and at shows! I love passing on my passion by teaching at every opportunity!
