Make a lovely sturdy felt bag using the wet feltmaking method. Your bag will be made without using any sewing and can be as decorative as you like. You will learn how to design the shape and create your own unique decoration. Using the resist method, you will form your design into a strong seamless bag capable of containing all your usual handbag items. Feltmaking is an addictive craft, fun and creative and will leave you wanting to explore further.
On this course, you will learn:
How to make flat felt.
How to design and construct a pattern for a three-dimensional felt bag
Using the resist method, you will learn how to make a bag with seams.
How to create a design for front and back of a bag using a pre-felt method.
Create different types of handles for the bag.
Once you have mastered the skill of creating a three-dimensional felt item you may like to go on to design and make other items, like a hat, in a future course.

Any normal felting equipment that you may have;
Notebook and pencils,
1 litre plastic jug,
Unscented olive oil soap (available from any health food shop)
The tutor will bring felting equipment in case students aren't able - please let us know in advance.
The following items can be purchased from your tutor
There will be a basic kit supplied for each student which will include bubble wrap, resist material, decorators’ plastic, bamboo blinds, paper for patterns, marker pens, foam rollers, water sprayers and enough merino wool to make a bag. The cost of this is £20 payable to the tutor 'on the day'. There will be additional merino wool and water sprayers available for purchase as well.

Sue Pearl has been making felt for over 20 years. She runs all levels of adult workshops and takes her skills into art and craft schools across the country as well as overseas. Sue is a long-standing member of the International Feltmakers Association and has exhibited both here and in America and has a piece on permanent exhibition in the Museum of Oxfordshire. Sue is also a member of the Oxfordshire Craft Guild. She has published a book entitled Felted Friends and produced a DVD called Felt Magic.
