This course is suitable for beginners, for those who may have crocheted in the past and want to refresh their skills and for those who may crochet already and want to improve. Through a series of motifs, learn to start and finish, crochet basic stitches, use simple joining techniques, follow written patterns and simple charts and gain hints and tips to make your crochet more professional.

This course aims to get you hooked on crochet!

We will learn how to:

  • start and finish
  • crochet basic stitches
  • work in rows and rounds
  • change colours
  • follow patterns and simple charts.

We will start to make a cushion cover out of motif squares, including Granny square, Ripple and a 3-d Flower.  We will explore the Corner to Corner or C2C technique.   We will have time to learn and practise, with projects to start and work on in your free time.  You can also bring along a project that you are working on that we can problem solve together.

After the course you should be confident in starting and finishing a project, be able to read a pattern, or refresh your technique, and update your skills. You will be given all original patterns, and photo tutorials used.

Please bring with you

5mm hook and a selection of Double Knit yarn
Knitters needle
Pen and notepad
A camera is also a good idea - you could always use the camera on your phone

The following items can be purchased from your tutor

A starter pack with 5mm hook, sewing needle, and a selection of DK yarn will be available for £5.  Diana will have specially selected colour packs of yarn available to start larger projects, with prices from £12 - £26 and accessories, hooks and books at various prices.

Diana Bensted

I left primary school teaching to pursue a craft I am passionate about – Crochet! I opened a shop and honed my crochet skills, teaching crochet (and a bit of knitting) to many people. I started designing and found that I love to make patterns that are easy to follow, and that use a minimum of sewing up! I specifically use photo and video tutorials to support those new to the craft but use ingenious twists to interest those who have been crocheting for years. I have designed for some national magazines and yarn producers, this experience has helped me to develop my designing skills, but I now prefer to sell my patterns and kits directly to my lovely customers online and at shows! I love passing on my passion by teaching at every opportunity!
